This is the second year of our annual 13 week summer trail race series that welcomes runners, walkers, hikers, mountain bikers, and other trail users to participate in a weekly course designed by the various trail users who love Millstone Trails. Each week will feature a predesigned route that we will rotate throughout the summer and we’ll add on some exciting extras as we progress through the series. Purchasing a ticket for the series gets you into the category of your choice, entries into the associated raffle(based on participation), a trail race series t-shirt, and an invitation to the end of season party!

This isn’t your traditional race series. Beyond being a fundraiser for our trails, this series is a way to invite everyone to Millstone, introduce you to new routes and trails you haven’t been on, reduce barriers to participation in trail events, and bring our trail users together as a part of the whole Millstone community. 

Instead of each week’s standings being based on time, the race is participation based, with participation in each week’s course adding to a participant’s points. Points transfer to entries into an end of the series raffle, which includes many prizes! More participation equals more entries into the raffle.The idea is to create an environment where folks can feel encouraged to participate in the series without feeling the pressures of competition, this is about fun! Since this series is participation based, lap times are not mandatory to report, but if you would like to compare yourself with other runners or riders in those categories, then you can submit your times weekly as well.

Each week’s participation runs Sunday through Saturday and a form for points must be submitted by Saturday night at midnight. Each week the participants will enter their points on a form sent to the email you register with. We will keep track of the points and put entries into the “buckets” for prize winnings. There will be interesting ways throughout the weeks to add extra points!

Extra points:

  • Take a picture of your experience on the trails and send to
  • Find a hidden gnome on the designated weekly route and take a selfie with you, your bike, and the gnome. Place the gnome back where you found it if you have to remove it to take the picture. 
  • Take the bonus loop. Add some miles or technical features by adding on the weekly suggested bonus loop.

The series starts the week of June 26th and each week you’ll have from Sunday to Saturday to report your participation through the weekly emailed form. You can ride alone or with a group of your choosing.

End of the series and season party

At the end of the series, we’ll be hosting a party at the Granite Museum in Barre City. On September 25th we’ll have a day of fun foot and bike races, food and drinks, community celebration, and the raffling off of the prizes for the trail series participants! We hope all the series participants and the rest of the trail community join us for this fun day of celebrating the season and the trails!
